Homeschooling in the Philippines

So, what is homeschooling and how can you start to be a homeschooler in the Philippines?

Homeschooling is a form of education which can be conducted at home. The usual set-up of homeschooling in the Philippines is the parent serving as the child’s teacher. To be qualified as a homeschool teacher, the parent should be a college graduate and has the time and the capability of teaching children of at least 4 hours of instruction. To start teaching, they should go directly to DepEd or to the nearest DepEd accredited homeschooling programs/institutions to avail school curricula, lesson plans, teacher-training and instructional materials.

Homeschooling programs cost inexpensive when compared to most private schools in the Philippines.

What are the advantages of homeschooling?

As a homeschooler, you will be benefited by helping your child to learn in a non-pressured way. Children can learn anytime and anywhere it wants.  Also, you can benefit to it by saving travel expense, travel time and promotes family bonding.

What is the Difference of Homeschooling from an Open University?

Open Universities are like homeschooling that it permits students to learn at home. In this set-up, students utilize the internet and printed materials plus a face to face class session occasionally. After a completed course, students can get diplomas and certificates.

Homeschooling are offered from elementary to high school while open universities are for college students.
